Kachikwu Apologises, Assures Nigerians Fuel Shortages to Ease off Next Week

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, on Tuesday apologised to Nigerians for his comment on the nationwide fuel shortages, adding that enough measures had been put in place to end them by next week. Specifically, he said even though a two-week target had been set to end the scarcity of fuel, he was working assiduously to ensure that between April 5th and 7th, the lingering queues would have largely disappeared. Kachikwu who gave the assurance before the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) in the National Assembly, also tendered an unreserved apology to Nigerians over the comment he made last week stating that “he was not a magician”. He explained that he erroneously made the statement because he was not a politician. Pro-democracy activist Tunji Braithwaite dies at 82

Front line politician, lawyer and former presidential candidate of the oldest surviving political party in the country, Nigeria Advance Party (NAP) Dr. Tunji Braithwaite is dead. The octogenarian died at St. Nicholas hospital, aged 82. Braithwaite was born in 1933, the youngest son of eight children. He was educated at the prestigious C.M.S Grammar School, entering the school’s Preparatory Section in 1946 and completing his education there in 1953. He proceeded to sit for his A Levels at the London University at Kennington College in 1955 and enrolled in 1957/58 as a Law student at the Council of Legal Education, London. He was admitted into Lincoln’s Inn that same year and graduated as a barrister in 1960. In February 1961, he was called to Bar at Lincoln’s Inn and thereafter signed the Rolls of Barristers at the High Court of Justice, Strand, London before returning to Nigeria. The Senior Special Assistant, SSA, to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media, Garba Shehu, said on Sunday that the presidency will soon begin to hold town hall meetings with Nigerians. Mr. Shehu made this known while answering reporters’ questions in Abuja. According to him, government decided to embark on such meetings because it has realised the importance of information communication to the people at the grassroots. “I know that there is a plan that the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo would start town hall meetings in zones. “It would then be broken down to the states and so on. “Government realises that there is a need to take information to the people and there are steps that are being taken in order to ensure that is done,” he said. Mr. Shehu criticised the National Orientation Agency, NOA, for being indifferent to the Federal Government’s change mantra. “We have an agency like NOA with 773 offices nationwide. “Each has not less than 5 to 7 staff and well-equipped, but you know

YABATECH Expels Six Final Year Students For Result Forgery

Six students of Yaba College of Technology have been expelled for presenting fake or altered National Diploma (ND) and National Certificate of Education (NCE) results for admission. This was contained in a circular signed by the Deputy Registrar of the institution Mrs Taiwo Obadimu. The students who were in the departments of Food Technology, Mathematics and Integrated Science, Physics Education, Estate Management and Valuation, Industrial Technical Education and Industrial Maintenance Engineering were directed by the circular to hand over all college property, including student identity cards in their possession, to the heads of their department, the Polytechnic Librarian and the Dean of Students’ Affairs, with immediate effect.

FG Declares March 25 And March 28 As Public Holidays

The Federal Government has declared Friday, March 25 and Monday, March 28 as public holidays to mark the Good Friday and Easter celebrations respectively. The Code of Conduct Tribunal on Friday, March 18 adjourned Bukola Saraki’s ongoing trial till Thursday, March 24. Saraki is facing a 13 counts of false declarations of assets while he was the governor of Kwara state. He was represented by 80 lawyers, among whom six were Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN). Rotimi Jacobs, the counsel to federal government, however argued that the motion was not ready for hearing. He added that the application should have come at the end of the trial, and not at the beginning of it. “We urge your lordship to call us to present out witnesses, and rule that the application wait until the end of the trial,”he said. Kanu Agabi, counsel to Saraki on the other hand, asked the tribunal to give room for the hearing of the motion, stating that it was in line with the law. “Our motion is according to the law. CCT adjourns Saraki's trial to March 18

The trial of the Senate president Bukola Saraki has been postponed as his lawyers submitted an application to the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) challenging the jurisdiction of the tribunal to try him for failing to declare his assets. Justice Umar adjourned the case to Friday, March 18, for moving of the motion and possible hearing of the substantive matter. The Senate president has been charged with 13 counts of false declarations when he was the governor of Kwara state. He was represented by 66 lawyers, among whom are seven senior advocates of Nigeria (SAN). Kanu Agabi, the lead lawyer to Saraki, told the court that there was a motion that must be ruled on before the commencement of trial. “The supreme court dismissed the appeal and said that we harrased the tribunal. CHANGE:Buhari unbundles NNPC into 7 units, names new heads

President Buhari has approved the immediate unbundling of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, into seven independent operational units. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, made this known today March 8th. According to Kachiukwu, the new units are Upstream, Downstream, Gas & Power, Refineries, Ventures, Corporate Planning & Services and Finance and Accounts.

Oba Saliu Adetunji, the 41st Olubadan of Ibadan land, was on Friday presented with the instrument and staff of office by the Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi. The ceremony was witnessed by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi; Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi; Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Saad and other traditional leaders. In his first official speech, the new Olubadan said he would ensure that the peace of the city was sustained, stating also that he would step up the campaign for the actualisation of Ibadan State and an international airport in the city.
