Kanu, Drogba, Eto'o to play Mandela match


At least three former African Player of the Year winners will lead an all star cast of African football legends in a two-legged charity game to be jointly organized by both the Nelson Mandela Foundation and Kanu Heart Foundation.

Former Nigeria captain and two-time African Player of the Year Winner Nwankwo Kanu announced the event in Abuja on Thursday.

“A team of African football legends will play against a team of South African legends to raise funds for the two charities,” Kanu said. 

The first of the two-legged game is scheduled to take place in Nigeria on 8 April, while the second is scheduled for 6 May in South Africa.

Among former internationals expected during both matches are Abedi Pele, Samuel Etoo, Didier Drogba, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, Daniel Amokachi, Anthony Yeoboah, Oman Biyick, Kana Biyick, Doctor Khumalo, Eric Tinkler, Phil Masinga, Abdullahi Traore, Yussuf Foufana, Omar Ben Sallah, Michael Essien, Charles Akunnor and Pape Diouf.

Proceeds from the matches will be donated to Nelson Mandela Foundation and Kanu Heart Foundation.
