Judge appears over an hour late at Saraki's CCT trial in Abuja

– Danladi Umar, the CCT chairman, has come over an hour late to court for the commencement of Saraki’s trial – The Senate President’s trial was billed to begin at 12pm prompt, but Umar arrive 20 minutes short of 2pm – Saraki was kept waiting in court alongside some of his colleagues The chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal(CCT), Danladi Umar, on Tuesday, April 19, appeared at the court hours late. The trial was meant to commence at exactly 12pm and over an hour after, Umar is still yet to arrive. He arrived in court at exactly 1:40pm with no explanation on why he was late. Senator Saraki at a session of the CCT hearing in Abuja. Bukola Saraki, the president of the Senate and about 10 lawmakers were present at the court waiting for the trial to commence. Some of the lawmakers present include Sam Anyawu representing Imo east senatorial district, Stella Oduah representing Anambra north senatorial district and Gershom Bassey representing Cross river south senatorial district among others. This shows a huge reduction in comparison to when the trial commenced. Saraki has been charged with 13 counts of false declarations of assets while he was the governor of Kwara state. His case has been ongoing since September 22, 2015. Meanwhile, the embattled Senate President, has opened up on his ongoing trial at the CCT. Speaking through Yusuph Olaniyonu, his special adviser on media and publicity, Saraki said the trial will not affect the activities at the red chambers of the National Assembly. This statement by Saraki was made after the chairman of the tribunal, Danladi Umar announced that the proceedings in the trial would continue on a day-to-day basis.
