THE CLASSIC CHURCH, FEW YEARS TO COME?               This is the 21 st century and things are already taking new looks. More so, I have discovered that the place where you can find the highest number of people coming together for a common goal and purpose, though different, is the church. However, the spirit of this century is already in the church and I think that if we are not careful, this is how the church will turn out to be in few years to come. Come with me. After nearly three decades of autocratic rule followed by a civil uprising, Burkina Faso has a new leader. Roch Marc Christian Kabore won more than 53% of votes in Sunday's elections, according to  an official tally . The results mean Kabore, a former Prime Minister of the West African nation, will become its next President. His closest opponent, Zephirin Diabre,  conceded defeat after winning less than 30% of votes. What comes next for Burkina Faso?   02:12 The road to this week's vote has been bumpy. UNIUYO Inaugurates New Vice-Chancellor

The staff, students and invited guests of the University of Uyo are currently assembled at the Permanent Site of the University in Nwanibia Road to inaugurate the incoming Vice-Chancellor and bid farewell to the outgoing one.  The out going Vice-Chancellor is Prof. Mrs. Comfort Ekpo who has been at the helms for power since 2010. She is the first female Vice-Chancellor of the institution. Today, she is handing over to Prof. Enefiok Essien who was the erstwhile Dean of the Faculty of Law in the same institution.  Prof. Essien is in the Department of Commercial and Property Law. FIFA withdraws Nwakali’s award, gives Chukwueze

World football governing body, FIFA, has admitted its error in handing Nigeria captain Kelechi Nwakali the bronze boot of the last FIFA U-17 World Cup finals held in Chile. The Zurich-based body has instead given the award to another Golden Eaglets midfielder, Samuel Chukwueze, after apologising for the mistake. FIFA admitted the error in a letter sent to the Nigeria Football Federation General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, on Wednesday. In the letter signed by the Director of the Football Division, Mustapha Fahmy, the world body wrote, “We made a mistake at the closing ceremony of the FIFA U-17 World Cup Chile 2015 with the distribution of the Adidas Bronze Boot. “Instead of player no. 8 of Nigeria, Samuel Chukwueze, the player Kelechi Nwakali (player no.10 of Nigeria) received the Adidas Bronze Boot. As the case against the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, over alleged false declaration of assets took a different turn at the weekend, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase has assured that he would arrest the Senate President as directed by the law before Monday.“We are going to promptly arrest the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and produce him before the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Monday. Since it is a bench warrant issued by a competent court, the order will be carried out without delay. We don’t want to pre-empt anything.”This was disclosed by new Force PRO, Mrs. Olabisi Kolawole, in an interview with LEADERSHIP.The Code of Conduct Tribunal sitting in Abuja, had on Friday, issued a bench warrant for Saraki’s arrest, for failing to appear in court over his ongoing trial for alleged false declaration of his assets. Saraki Appeals Code Of Conduct Tribunal Ruling

The Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, has filed an appeal challenging theruling of the Code of Conduct Tribunal which ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, to arrest and produce him before the tribunal on Monday, September 21.In his ground of appeal, Senator Saraki through his counsel, Joseph Daudu, submitted that the tribunal erred in law and also acted without jurisdiction‎ by assuming jurisdiction over the criminal trial of the appellant at the Code of Conduct Tribunal for a charge which is being challenged at the Federal High Court.Senator Saraki, in his appeal, stated that as at the time the tribunal overruled the appellant’s application to discharge the order for bench warrant for his arrest by the respondent, there was an order of the Federal High Court which was served on the tribunal.He further submitted that the appellant filed an application‎ dated September 17, challenging the jurisdiction of the tribunal to adjudicate on the charge brought befo

Confusion as Saraki Sworn in two Senators from the same constituency

The Senate has been hit with credibility crisis over the swearing in of two different persons to represent a single senatorial district.The two persons, Mustapha Sani Mohammed and Gen. (rtd) Mohammed A. Garba who are both claiming to have won the election underthe All Progressives Congress have been sworn in to represent Niger south senatorial district,Daily Trust reports. It was gathered that Garba was sworn in at the inauguration of the 8th Senate on June 9 while Mustapha was sworn in last week Wednesday, August 12,2015, by the Senate president, Bukola Saraki for the same position. According to sources, the Senate president decision was said to have been influenced by his associates to swear in Mustapha for theposition even when Garba is yet to constitutionally vacant the seat. However, Ibrahim Tukur El-Sudi, special adviser on legal and constitutional matter, said the confusion arises from lack of information from the judiciary.
