NFF: WE CAN DO NOTHING

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) explained they could not fire the Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi from his position saying their hands were tied. According to a board member, the football body leadership is “helpless” in the situation. “The last time we did what we thought was best, we were forced to revert the changes by people in high places. This time around we are helpless. We are scared of announcing we won’t renew his deal due to what happened last time and unless he resigns or walks away we can’t help out.”

Ex-Stationery Stores captain, Yomi Peters, dies at 71

A former captain of the defunct Stationery Stores of Lagos, Yomi Peters, 71, who has been hospitalised at the Lagos State University Hospital, Ikeja, is dead. The late Peter’s ordeal was brought to public attention by a story on him inThe PUNCH, when his inability to defray his medical bills, stalled his treatment in LASUTH. Lagos State Football Association confirmed his death on Wednesday.

Sierra Leone: Ebola burial team dumps bodies

Workers employed by Sierra Leone's Ministry of Health to bury Ebola victims took drastic action this week in a dispute over pay, abandoning the bodies of 15 people in the street. Some were paraded at the entrance to a hospital Monday to stop people from entering. Another body was placed outside the entrance to a hospital administrative building. The workers have gone on strike because they say they are owed seven weeks of their "hazard" pay of $100 a week. Burying Ebola victims is a dangerous task, since the deadly virus is spread through contact with bodily fluids. The bodies were all cleared as of Tuesday after burial teams working for the Red Cross, rather than the state, were called in. The National Ebola Response Center has announced the sacking of all involved in the strike, said Sidi Yahyah Tunis, a spokesman for the center. UNIJOS Releases Notice on Indefinite Closure of the School

On Monday November 24, 2014 students of the University of Jos embarked on a peaceful demonstration against certain issues. Management met and issued a release assuring students and members of the University Community that some of the issues raised by the students were nothing but rumours that had no basis. However, certain steps were taken to address all the grievances including the shifting of the Second Semester Examinations with one (1) week and the setting up of a Committee to look at the other issues. This morning, Tuesday November 25, 2014 students mobilized themselves again and blocked the Bauchi Road Highway and set tyres on fire. In order to avoid further escalation of the situation, Management met this morning and directed that the University should be closed down until further notice.
